“Bedbug 101”
Bedbugs are small, flat, blood-feeding insects that are most active at night. They typically feed on humans while they sleep, leaving behind itchy bites and a lot of frustration. Though they’re visible to the naked eye, bedbugs are masters of hiding and can be difficult to detect in the early stages of an infestation.
What do bedbugs look like?
Adult bedbugs are about the size of an apple seed—roughly 4–5 mm long. They are reddish-brown, flat, and oval-shaped when unfed, and swell into a deeper red color after feeding.
Younger bedbugs, called nymphs, are much smaller and lighter in color, often translucent or pale beige, which makes them harder to see.
What problems do they cause?
While bedbugs aren’t known to transmit diseases, they can still cause significant physical and emotional stress. Bites may result in:
• Red, itchy welts or rashes
• Allergic reactions
• Insomnia or anxiety
• Embarrassment and social stigma
Their rapid reproduction can quickly turn a small issue into a full-blown infestation, which is why early detection and professional treatment are so important.
Where do they hide?
Bedbugs hide in tight, dark places near where people sleep or sit. Common hiding spots include:
• Mattress seams and box springs
• Bed frames and headboards
• Cracks in furniture or baseboards
• Behind electrical outlets, picture frames, or wallpaper
• Inside luggage or secondhand furniture
Their ability to squeeze into tiny crevices makes them hard to find without a trained eye.
FAQs

Here are a few signs to watch for:
• Itchy red bites, often in a row or cluster

• Shed skins or eggshells near your bed or furniture
• A sweet, musty smell (stronger with larger infestations)
If you’re noticing any of these signs, it’s time to call in an expert.

Bedbugs are great hitchhikers. They don’t fly or jump, but they cling to luggage, clothes, furniture, and even people. They often spread after travel or from secondhand items like beds, couches, or clothing. Clean homes are just as vulnerable as messy ones—they’re after warmth and blood, not dirt.
-
DIY methods may kill some bedbugs, but they rarely eliminate the whole infestation. Bedbugs hide in tiny spaces and are very resilient. Professional treatment is the safest and most effective way to ensure they’re completely gone
